View Full Version : Havoc SC owners

We are currently working on trying to do a new chassis. We are just as surprised as you are to hear that our cars are now illegal. When we were doing all the testing for the Havoc's we did quite a bit of testing with the narrower version. We decided to go with the wider car mainly because they were easier to work on and that it made mounting the electronics in the cars easier. The performance advantage of having the batteries over to the left was very minimal. The new chassis will be available within the next few weeks. I know everyone will be eager to get them so they can be tested for the upcoming events. Be patient with us, as I said before we didn't see this coming.
We will be doing some sort of an exchange program for everyone that has a current wide car. This will ease the cost for the customers. From what I've seen by looking at the cars today it will be feasible to narrow up the cage by drilling new holes in the chassis and standing the lipo's up against the cages. This isn't the best fix but it will be the cheapest way to make your cars legal. I will get some pictures of my car when I get it done. Thanks for everyone's support in our efforts to provide you all with a National Champion caliber car.

Dustin. I wouldn't bow down to Doug and the cronies just yet. They may end up doing the right thing. By the way, why weren't you consulted when these guys were writing the rules?

If you take a look at the names who created the rules:
http://www.usopenwheelchamps.com (http://www.usopenwheelchamps.com/) go to rules.
It appears Mr. Putnam was one of the decision makers.
Personally, I enjoy the fact that my big ol meaty hands can fit inside the sprint.
So, the two cars I ordered up, showed up today of course.
Guess I need to get a hold of either Dustin or Barry?

Dustin, look in the JRC update forum, this may work for your cars as well, would just eliminate the flare that your cage mounting creates and would just be flat all the way back. All of this of course woul depend if your hood would be too wide or not. Just thought it was a good idea and may save yourself some hassle, time, and money. Let me know what you think, if this is an option I can help work with you on this...Jesse

Here is some pics of my car modified. Post #131 http://www.dirtoval.com/forums/showthread.php?p=252734#post252734
You can only drill two holes as the one falls into a battery slot. Then just stand up the Lipo against the cage side. Move the holes in .5". The easiest way to do it is to take a straight edge and mark a line from the center of the two hole opposite each other on the chassis. Then mark a line .5" from the center of the hole. Drill an 1/8" hole and should be good. This is the cheap fix we will have the new plates done soon. I'm going to do some testing this weekend.

Dustin. look at the front on my nerf bars. you can see they mount with the standard holes i made, but the cage mounts to the nerf 1/4in further in. your cars could possibly do this too, maybe even 1/4 in on each side instead of doing the whole thing on one side....Jess

I will tell you what rob told me,
"It's nothing personel" lol
Dustin,
Sorry to dirty up your thread with this stuff but I have no choice. See you tomorow.

From what I understand, the Havoc is about the same width as the JRC. Well, there is a way to fix the cars without replacing or modifying the chassis. Although the cage might have a slight / \ look to it, it will comply with the rules. I tried it on my JRC and didn't think that it looked terrible.
I cut the length of the cross tubes at the top of the cage to 3.0" and added a cross tube at the front of the down tubes (where they are cut behind the front shock tower). This will allow the cage to fall within the 3.6" limit. Now, I just need to cut a new hood.
It might not be the perfect solution, but we will still have room for our electronics to fit nicely on the chassis. And we don't have to buy a new chassis.
Here's what Rob had to say about it on page 17 (post #414) of the rules thread:
Curt,
As I read that I see no problem with what you are saying. As long as the hood, and top of the cage from the back of the halo forward and the down tubes is 3.6" or less, it should be fine. That being said my OPINION would be that it would likely leave the cage looking like this / \ which some may say is unrealistic but if that is all that is needed to allow the wider cars to comply than I see no problem with that at all.

When you do the above does it make the 3.6 at the main frame rail? which is the one that runs parallel to the chassis just over the motor.
Let me know....im in the same delima.

oooo...I doubt it. :o Do those rails have to be 3.6" or less? I posted pics in the JRC thread.

depends on which cage you get.
custom works cage=custom works body
dynotech cage=dynotech body
you can get a custom works cage and make side panels out of lexan...but dont forget your 3 dimensional header pipes...... hope that helps.

There is talk in our area to try to run them on the carpet. Would you suggeat the standard or wide front and rear arms? thanks

If they would allow it I would run the wide on the right and narrow on the left. We are going to do some testing shortly after the Open Wheel. We should have a better answer then.
